Short presentation for international contacts

Bergen Katedralskole is believed to have been founded in 1153, and until 1800 it was closely affiliated to the church. Since then the school has been a traditional grammar school which today offers pre-university courses in foreign languages, social studies and science subjects, including mathematics.

In addition, the school offers assessment of skills and adult education, the internationally accepted International Baccalaureate as well as courses for non-native speakers.

Bergen Katedralskole is situated in the city centre, next to the Cathedral, and attracts pupils from Bergen and surrounding areas. The school has between 850 and 900 pupils, half of whom are taking adult education courses.

The school aims to provide an inclusive environment, in which the school’s motto "Ex sapientia libertas" (Through knowledge and wisdom to liberty) and the school’s vision of ”Tradition and learning in a progressive environment” play a central role.
